We’ll Descend As Low As You Want During Campaigns— Amaechi Tells Tinubu’s Camp

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has warned that his camp would be prepared to engage opponents on equal terms during the 2027 election campaigns, saying they would respond in kind to political attacks if provoked.

Amaechi said this while speaking  on Channels Televisio’s “Politics Today” on Tuesday.

“By the time we start the campaign, we will abuse anybody who is ready to abuse anybody. We will descend as low as they want. The president said all is fair in politics; we will descend to that level if that is what they want,”the former transportation minister said.

Despite the warning, Amaechi said politics was not his immediate priority following the death of his mother, he stressed that he was currently focused on mourning his late mother and was not ready to engage in debates about the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

“But for now, I am mourning my mother, my dear mother. My mother brought me up in difficult situations, so I need to think about her. Now is not the time to discuss Tinubu’s government,” he said.

The former Rivers State governor also took a swipe at Tinubu’s aide, Daniel Bwala, cautioning him against forgetting past conversations they shared after he left the camp of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

“The only thing I am saying to Tinubu’s government today — Bwala should not forget what he told me when I called him after he left Atiku,” Amaechi stated.

When pressed to disclose the details of the conversation, Amaechi declined, insisting that the discussion was held in confidence.

“I will not disclose it because I am sure Bwala told me in confidence,” he added.

Amaechi further criticised some of the individuals commenting on national issues, arguing that they lacked the academic and professional credentials to challenge senior religious leaders.

“He is not qualified to speak to even a reverend father. Do you know what it means to be a bishop? There is no bishop that does not have a PhD, and all these people talking do not have PhDs,” he said.

Amaechi’s comments came amid increasing political tensions and exchanges between opposition figures and members of the Tinubu administration ahead of the 2027 general elections
