August 14, (THEWILL) — Idoma women in politics, under the aegis of Anya’ Olo Ki Doma, have thrown their support behind the Deputy Speaker in the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Lamin Danladi Ogenyi, to continue the delivery of dividends of democracy to the people of Benue South senatorial district.
Speaking against the backdrop of the crisis between supporters of the Deputy Speaker and that of the Chairman of Ado local Government council, the group noted that any move to recall or suspend Ogenyi from office would amount to a great disservice to the people of Benue State.
At a news conference in Makurdi on Wednesday, the leader of the group, who was the former Chairman of Ado Local Government Council, Mrs Elizabeth Onma Ogenyi, described the deputy speaker as someone out to make peace and development, as shown in her constituency projects cutting across Benue South, other than her constituency.
“This is not the first time Benue South has produced a deputy speaker. However, this one is with exceptional qualities and needs the support of all rather than distraction”, she stated.
She added that all the women in politics in the area are behind the Deputy Speaker, calling on leaders in the constituency to close ranks towards addressing some political gaps for the greater good of women and the constituency in particular.
“Ezza people found in Ado and Oju local Government areas vote massively at elections. They deserve respect and honour. The victimisation of women in Benue South should stop forthwith”, Ogenyi appealed.
According to her, the present governor Hyacinth Alia administration believes in teamwork in which the deputy speaker is a core player, advising the Ado Council chairman to embrace peace for development to thrive in the area.
Listing the achievements of the Deputy Speaker in the last two years, a women’s political Activist, Mrs Julie Oja Abah, noted the medical outreach services provided which many residents were treated for various ailments free of charge.
According to her, apart from the construction of classroom blocks in Ijigbam and other communities, Hon. Lamin Danladi Ogenyi purchases and donates over 500 pieces of wrappers for women in the constituency, bags of rice and wheelchairs for the disabled.
He expressed the hope that in the next two years, the deputy speaker will provide more dividends to the people of the area and beyond, calling for peace and support for her to succeed in the task of law-making, among others.
