Sam Amadi Warns Opposition: Beware Tinubu’s ‘Dark Politics’ Ahead of 2027 Election

Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, Sam Amadi, former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and current Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, has issued a stark warning to opposition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday, Amadi described President Bola Tinubu as a master of “dark politics” and cautioned the opposition coalition against underestimating him. He characterized the Atiku-Obi-led alliance as weak both strategically and organizationally, with a tendency to prioritize elite interests over genuine political reforms.

Reflecting on past elections, Amadi noted the seriousness and strategic depth of the All Progressives Congress (APC) when it was still an opposition party before 2015. He contrasted this with the current coalition, which he said suffers from internal divisions and ego clashes that undermine its unity and effectiveness.

“They’re not really working harder. The problem is the ego crisis, with politicians overestimating their importance and their right to govern,” Amadi explained. “Back in 2015, the leaders understood who should take the lead. Buhari already had a solid voter base, and the alliance was more focused.”

He further stated that the political landscape has shifted, with the APC now proficient in using tactics of manipulation and infiltration to weaken the opposition, a mastery the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) lacked in the past. “The APC has learned from past successes and the PDP’s failures. Expect more betrayals and planted operatives within the opposition,” Amadi warned.

Amadi also criticized the opposition for lacking a unifying ideology and a clear focus on removing the current government. Instead, he sees many actors within the coalition focused on personal ambitions, whether for the immediate election or future political opportunities in 2031.

From his perspective, this diversity of interests and absence of clear leadership severely weaken the coalition’s ability to mount a serious challenge to Tinubu and the APC in 2027.
