The Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoI), Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International ( FGBMFI) Dr. Olusola Ajolore has called on Christians in Nigeria, especially the youths, to get more involved in active politics, as a way of addressing complaints on Muslim-Muslim tickets.
He said this in Abuja on Monday during a Media Engagement in commemoration of his centenary birthday organised by the FGBMFI.
Ajolore argued that many Christians who have become obsessed with complaints on politicians, both at the state and Federal levels, ignoring people of other faiths in their political arrangements, have been shying away from politics.
He said, “Get involved in political activities, be a member of your ward, let them see you there. At the ward level, that is where they decide all kinds of things. If you are not there, they might not consider you.
“ There was a complaint one time against the governor that made appointments of Muslims, Muslims. And I said, okay, so how many of you are members of the ward where you reside?” That’s a simple one.
“The Yoruba man says if you are not there, you cannot argue that your own is small. It has to be small now. In fact, that is if they remember you”.
The centenarian also called on the government to increase funding for the education sector, noting that most of the institutions in the country do not have standard facilities required to equip the youths with cutting -edge skills.
He further urged Nigerian youths to engage in relevant skills acquisition, while also making meaningful contributions to nation building.
Ajolore noted that, “ Education is very close to my heart because I spent a significant part of my life in education. My experience has taught me that education is about much more than obtaining certificates. Education must produce competence and character.
“ We need young Nigerians who are educated, skilled, innovative and technologically capable, but who also understand integrity, discipline, responsibility and service.
“Our education system must connect young people to the real economy through technology, entrepreneurship, technical and vocational education, agriculture, manufacturing and other productive sectors. We must also ensure that children are not left outside the education system.
“Education is one of our strongest long-term national security strategies. When we educate and equip young people, we give them alternatives to crime, hopelessness and dependency.
“But older generations also have a responsibility to create the conditions in which their education, skills and energy can produce results. We must give our young people not just encouragement, but opportunity”, he added.
